Bluetooth 5 - What you need to know

JLab Audio has recently made the shift from Bluetooth 4.2 to Bluetooth 5. Here are three notable upgrades between Bluetooth 5 and its previous versions.

While JLab has adopted the latest Bluetooth 5 protocol, it's worth noting that many of the major developments of Bluetooth 5 do not impact audio streaming. Here's what Bluetooth 5 means today:

Increased Range

The first big improvement from Bluetooth 4.2 to Bluetooth 5 is the increase in operating range. Bluetooth 5 can now theoretically operate within distances of up to 300 meters, which is 4 times greater than Bluetooth 4.2’s previous limit of 75 meters. This update will allow us to create headphones and speakers with an operational reach further than ever.

Increased Speed

Bluetooth 5 has doubled its operating speed from 1 Mbs/s to 2 Mbs/s. Not only does this enable an easier transfer of larger data sets, it also permits faster data transferring from your phone to any Bluetooth device. Meaning, your music will come through faster and clearer from your phone to your earbuds!

Increased battery efficiency

With improvements to Bluetooth’s Low Energy (LE), excess battery drainage from Bluetooth devices is no longer a concern. Bluetooth 5 allows for improvements on data speed and range without extra tolls on your phone’s battery life. This allows you to listen to music for longer periods of time without having to worry about charging your phone!

At JLab, we’re excited to be using latest version of Bluetooth. Our goal is to make YOUR audio listening experience the best it can possibly be. By being on the forefront of technology, we can deliver the best possible audio experience there is.
